Carbon monoxide is converted to Carbon dioxide in the Shift Converters and Carbon dioxide is separated from the gas steam in the Carbon dioxide removal plant and sent to Urea plant under high pressure. Remaining components of the gas i. e. nitrogen and hydrogen react together under high pressure and temperature in presence of Fecatalyst to form Ammonia. This ammonia and carbon dioxide then react together under controlled temperature and pressure to produce urea. The prilled urea is bagged in 50 Kg content polythene inserted jute bag and delivered to the distributors by Barge, Truck and Rail/Wagons from the factory premises.BRIF HISTORY OF ZFCL:For construction of a fertilizer plant at Ashuganj was first examined in 1969-70 and a feasibility study of the project was approved in 1975. The main contractor was Foster Wheeler Limited (UK) and plant commissioning was performed on 15th December 1981.

The project was eventually handed over to the state owned Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) on the 1st December 1983 as per decision of the government.
